I spent only 22 euro and I got 4 albums (three 12x12 and one 8x8), stickers, paper in both sizes, labels, chipboard shapes and stick on letters. I won't say the shop cos I don't want to advertise but it's big and it sells things cheap, and you just have to take a chance on what you find on any given day. One of the albums is quite unusual -
it only cost me 2 euro, as some things were missing. It has 2 frames that you can stick down, with 12 slots, and there should be 12 little notebooks, but I only got 6, and then there is ribbon and waxed thread. You can decorate each notebook and use the thread to bind them together. I am going to use it to make something special for my son's 18th later this year. I think I will just use one notebook at the start and then make 11 mini layouts/scenes/memories of important things in his life. I'm already starting to collect things for it, and have ordered some Fimo and UTEE to make some other stuff too.........all I need now is moooooooooooore tiiiiiiime!!! :P

This is a tin. A blue tin with a brass coloured lid and white flowers on it, sort of vaguely Japanese in design. Maybe. I have had it for about 15 years and it doesn't look anything special really. I keep the weights for my weighing scales in it. I don't remember what it used to hold before it was mine, perhaps sugar.
But every time I look at it, I am standing in the kitchen of my beloved aunt, talking to her and my cousin, and I feel so comforted. My cousin suffered from schizophrenia all her life, and she was sometimes quite difficult and awkward to deal with. But other times she was very positive, loving and supportive. She was given to impulsive gestures of affection and on one of these she gave me some things from their house, and this tin was one of them. All the things she gave me were blue and white, I guess she knew I would like them :) My aunt was one of my heroines when I was growing up and I loved her very much..........and I'm glad that every time I do some baking or some cooking, I use the tin that brings me right back to her.
Does anyone else have associations like this?

My 22 year old son likes Dolly Mixtures, but he likes to eat them in a particular order........this jar that he got for Christmas has only got purple, brown and orange left. I think he saves the orange til last..........and no, he is NOT a tidy obsessive person at all - only with Dolly Mixtures!

Signs of Spring

It's been absolutely freezing today, although bright and sunny and for a little while it felt that spring might actually appear one day! These little daffodils are just starting to open on my windowsill, although it will be a while before the ones in the garden get started.

I also managed to get some clothes out into the sunshine for a while, and although they didn't dry completely, they smelled absolutely gorgeous. There's nothing like the smell of washing that has been out in the sun and wind for a while. Let's hope for some more bright days to lift the gloom of post-Christmas.

The only problem with this photo for each day mallarkey is that I keep forgetting to bring my camera out with me.....................
I had a lovely walk in the park today, lots of nice sights, no camera.
So I've cheated and posted a photo of my daughter's amazing hot chocolate that she made for herself. And it wasn't even taken today, it was taken during the snow, hence the quality of light - it was taken in daylight, no flash.
I hear there's more snow on the way so maybe my boots will get a REAL testing, woohoo!

Sunshine at Last

Ever since the snow melted almost a week ago it has been grey and cloudy and it's made everything look so brown and damp and depressing. But today the sun came out for a little while, and what a difference it made!
Hopefully there will be some more of it tomorrow, I'm tired of all the greyness now! The snow was so beautiful and was so bright, even at night. The light in our kitchen was beautiful from it. Sadly the sun also shows up the dirty paw marks on my windows, from little kitties trying to get our attention!

New Year's Day

and it's re-runs of Dr Who on TV, lazing around with my book, afternoon nap, quick dash up to the garage for more briquettes for the fire. Gonna make some more cards this evening too, I'm using my last week of holiday to make sure that I get on top of all the things that have been irritating me before the madness starts up once again!
