Cheating a bit again.......using some photos of the kids, on the basis that they are part of me! I've really enjoyed doing this challenge, it made me use up lots of pics that I had been piling up and made me think as well. Hopefully now I have a bit more time I will keep up the daily craft and keep working on those to-do projects.

Something in your fridge

Not strictly speaking in my fridge right now - but it has been in the past! I love this photo of one of our cats when she was a kitten, fascinated by the TV. The lettering doesn't show very well in the photo but it's a bright turquoise-blue.

Something purple

This is a combination of 2 different places - the wisteria is in my garden, but the photo of myself and my friend is at a wedding in Scotland. The bride's flowers were going to be purple and white and so when I saw the skirt (after much searching for something to wear) I knew it would be perfect. Borrowed a little purple beaded bag and hey presto! I kept this LO very minimal, I quite like the tape (which is from Tim Holtz) and the frame was from a Christmas cracker. I put some tape in it too. The flowers came from my fairy godmother. There's no title, I used a text stamp and then a little caption under the photos and left it at that.

Your handwriting

I used to change my handwriting quite often, trying out fancy letters and at one point all the dots on my i's were open circles - it took a long time to write anything! It got more streamlined when I had to write for exams, and now the only fancy letters left are my d's and the ones in my signature.
I made this tag for a LO about the sad tale of the eaten penguins. I used to do very fancy decorations on my Christmas cakes and this particular year it was Santa with some penguins. I had nowhere to put it as the kitchen was very small and completely crowded already so I left it on a table in the hall with strict instructions that no one was to touch it. I guess it was far too tempting for a 2 and half year old, because when I next turned around in the kitchen there was a little face looking up at me, covered in black food colouring and looking slightly full! All I could say was a shocked 'Ohhhhhh' at which point she burst into tears. I felt so bad that I just cuddled her and repaired the damage to what penguins were left!

Something that means a lot to you

I intended to get this LO done in the daylight so the photo would be better, but the day got away from me and I didn't get round to the cutting out until this evening. The colours really don't show very well at all. The photo I used is one of only 2 of my dad and my daughter. He died when she was only a few months old. The sentiment was on a card that we received after his death, and my mother liked it so much that we had it put on his gravestone too. Somehow it is a very comforting thought and I often think that he is still with us - but I wish very much that he could see his beautiful granddaughter today.

A souvenir from your holidays

I bought this net curtain with in-built fairy lights on a holiday in Scotland a couple of years ago. It lives over my craft table with my dragon flying beneath it. It's pretty when all the other lights are off.

I used some old holiday photos for today's LO, from a holiday in Littlehampton, West Sussex a few years ago. I'm enjoying this challenge, it's making me use up all those photos that have been sitting a pile for ages!

Something you shouldn’t have bought, but did anyways

No craft today, I've had a very busy and somewhat stressful day and I can't get my head around anything, but I may edit this in a few days! I saw this in the bookshop yesterday when I was ordering something else, and decided to buy it to read for the holidays, as we have the series recorded. Came home to find that my son not only already has a copy of this but of the next two in the series as well!!! But hey, I got Sean Bean on mine :P

A book you’ve been reading

I found this book in the local shop for 3.99 which I thought was good value - can't say it's the best book I've ever read, and certainly not one of Michael Crichton's better ones, but it's a reasonable story and it sort of flows along and engages your interest without taxing your brain too much! Apparently it was a manuscript they found in his office after his death - I can see why he maybe decided not to pursue it! However, I couldn't resist the whole pirate thing, I do love pirates. When I'm not being a white-haired elf warrior flying about on her dragon I am a pirate stomping around in thigh-high boots and snogging Johnny Depp............if only!
Anyhow, enough of the nonsense. I decided to keep with the pirate theme and use some more photos from my to-do pile. I did cheat today and went and bought some new paper because I just didn't have anything already that was quite right. I found this new pack from Papermania and thought the parrots were just the thing! Then some stickers and letters and sequins and its yo ho ho and off we go!

Something sweet

I've had this paper for ages as well as the photo, so perfect opportunity to use it up. I tried something a bit different with the LO too.

Something from your bathroom

I used up another photo that I've been wanting to scrap for ages today, but as I had a busy day it just got finished off tonight and the photo isn't very good as the papers have pale colours. The circles were supposed to represent bubbles, but I'm not sure that it worked. I think this was probably one of the last times that I got all 4 into the bath together.....they used to have such fun, but it only lasts for such a short time. Now I'm living with 4, where did that time go?

A stuffed doll/animal that you own

I've had these baby photos of myself for ages waiting to be scrapped so I decided to use them today as one of them has my precious teddy Pinky in it, along with Janie my doll. Sadly Janie is no longer with me, I'm not sure where or when we parted company, but Pinky is still going strong and lives in a box in my bedroom to protect him from moths! He is not nearly as fluffy as he used to be, but still just as lovable.
I debated whether to go with the colour of the black and white photos and then decided to go with a mad colour LO in complete contrast to the pics. The photo is awful as I had to use my phone because Son no 1 has absconded with my camera - he didn't think it would matter as it doesn't get used very often - ha ha ha, just shows how much he notices!!!
I also managed to update my borrowing day, so I am now caught up on myself after a very stressful and busy week :D

Something you don’t have much of

Well, that's easy today - I don't have enough time!!! And I'm cheating by using a LO I made a while ago of the clock in Prague. It's an amazing piece, with a whole series of figures that move when it strikes the hour. Working again til late this evening, but I have an idea for yesterday's theme which I will hopefully be able to do tomorrow and get myself back on track. What a manic few days :(

Something that I am borrowing off someone

Edited - I had the idea that it's nice to give someone a thank you card to say thank you for lending me as it's thank you season for teachers etc I made a batch!

well, I am completely stumped today. The only thing I can think of that I am currently borrowing is a book (well, 2 books) from a of them I have read and didn't like much, the other one is still waiting to be read! And I can't think HOW to get either of them into a craft project. I'm sooo tired and have to go out to work soon, working til 930pm so I'm booking this space and applying my brain to it today in my free moments!

Something that you have too much of and is taking up uneccessary space

I'm early today as i have to go to work soon and am working late today and the next two days - will be struggling to find time for my crafty things! I definitely have too much laundry - on the landing at the moment is a basket full of clean clothes, waiting for people to take them into their rooms (they obviously have way too many clothes!), it's been there for a week now; a heap of clothes lives permanently outside the eldest son's door, and the bathroom is full of wet manky towels and washing waiting to be done. So I made a very simple card with some dresses on it to express my hatred of laundry!

Something that makes you sad

It makes me sad to think of how much my dad has missed of his grandchildren, and how much he would have enjoyed seeing them grow and how proud he would be of them. I made a LO of him ages ago, with sailing pictures, but I had these 2 other photos that I wanted to use to show another side of him, the music and words side. I've used his old business cards (from when he was music critic of the Irish Times and when he taught English in Italy), some stamps of the Irish Times clock, and other things that remind me of him - it probably doesn't make much sense to anyone but me. It's a rubbish photo too, I've been at work all day and so had to take the picture in the evening. I miss him.

A device that you own but never use/touch

I got this XCut set ages ago in a swap, and at the time I thought it was great, but I actually never use it. And it's not that I cut the shapes some other way, I just always seem to use squares or rectangles! Next challenge will be to actually start using it I think!
I bought a new silver pen and finished off my pages of the Snow Queen enticing Kay away from Gerda - now to hide it somewhere so it won't get 'borrowed'!

Somewhere you went today

My very messy craft table of course! Have done a couple more pages of my album, but I'm very grumpy because I can't find my silver pen, which I want to use to write the journalling on these particular pages - I know it's somewhere about, I just can't find it. Then the rain bucketed down on my almost dry washing - one of those super fast downpours - the washing is now getting re-spun and will have to go in the dryer. Grr, grr, grr. I should have stayed out in my garden this morning, tidying and fixing my seedlings!

Well, my post from last night has disappeared, due to some issues with Blogger, hopefully it will be restored and in the right place.......I am so pleased that I've managed to post every day, I don't want a gap! Nature is the title today, and so I decided to scrap a photo that I've had waiting for a very long time. The son in the photo is now a young adult! I can't remember where this was taken, I think it might be Birr Castle Demesne? If anyone recognises it please let me know. The trees were so tall and thin, really stretched out, I remember the boys being amazed by them. The LO isn't quite finished, but I'm not sure what I want to put on it, I've used an acetate that I've had for ages too, so one tree is on the acetate and one is on the underlying paper.

hey, blogger!!!!!

Where's my post that I put up yesterday????

A sneak picture you took in class/at work

I made this card yesterday for a new baby, the 3rd new little boy I have heard of this week! As I teach piano in a school, it seemed appropriate to put the card on some music - Mary Poppins - wouldn't we all like to have her around, I know there are days when I really need a Mary Poppins in the house! It's not very clear in the photo, but the welcome banner is being held by a fairy with a star, so I got another use for my new star paper, and some silver heart confetti finished it off.

My Pet

My pet at the moment is my new wireless printer, which takes cardstock and watercolour paper with no trauma! It also means that I can sit at my laptop and play around with fonts etc, or try out different things for craft projects and then send them to the printer, it's so easy. Today I printed out something for a new baby card.

A product you use in your hair

Okay I'm cheating again (sorry Lou!) - it's not a product, it's a broken hair slide - but I DID use it in my hair! It's quite sparkly which doesn't really show in the photo, and I used some paper given to me by my very talented friend Carol - I know what I'm going use this card for too but I can't say just now - and I did wash the slide before I used it :D

Ballet shoes of course, from my mini album! This is getting boring, isn't it??

A picture of my lunch today

Well I forgot to take the photo before I had eaten my lunch, so I'm cheating and using some bikkies that we had after lunch instead. I did some more of my mini album today but the biscuits weren't on the table at the time!

A picture of my phone

A picture of my phone beside the birthday card that I made for my nephew and haven't posted in I had to phone him to wish him a happy day and ask him if there was anything he would like for a pressie. Nope, just money. Bleh, teenage boys!

Someone that inspires me

This was a tough one, as there are quite a few people that inspire me at the moment, but as I had these Darwin stamps for a long time and wanted to do something with them, I decided to go for a childhood inspiration, Charles Darwin. This LO isn't finished yet, I'm waiting for some Crackle Glaze to dry on some embellies, but I decided to take a picture of part of it anyway. Don't want to miss a day of my challenge!
It might seem like a strange choice of inspiration, the man whom most people associate with the theory of evolution and the whole man-as-monkey thing but Darwin was so much more than that. (And by the way, he never claimed that man was descended from monkeys)
I was always interested in natural history and ended up studying palaeontology as a direct result of my fascination with Darwin. He did sooo many things after that voyage on The Beagle. He spent his life trying to convince himself that maybe he was wrong, and that there really was a single Creator for everything in the universe. He worked on barnacles, orchids and finches among other things. He suffered from ill health for most of his life, one of his beloved daughters died as a young child (his wife never really recovered) and he lived with the pain of knowing that his beloved wife was troubled by his work and by the thought that she would not be with him in Heaven. But he worked on, painstakingly observing and recording and noting, only reluctantly publishing his idea when another, younger, scientist (Wallace) wrote to him with the same ideas.
As a scientist, I always tried to have that same patience, and attention to detail and truth. I didn't though, the lure of music and art and fantasy was too strong, and I came back to that world. I know dragons aren't real, but hey, I can dream, can't I?! I have never lost my admiration for Charles Darwin though, and his courage, perseverance and ultimate integrity in being true to himself and what he observed.

A cup I drank from today

Cup of tea while doing another page from my mini-album - and a very messy craft desk!

Something that stresses me out

It has to be - Traffic. I hate it! I hate the way ordinary people seem to become either completely brainless or completely obnoxious once they get behind the wheel of a car. I hate that because of circumstances, we have to use the car every day to get to work/school. I spend WAY too much time sitting in a metal box wishing I was somewhere else.

Something that I collect

Strictly speaking it's something that other people collect, but I may well start! My first ATC made on the theme of Nature for a challenge on the CCS forum. I found the little box when I was tidying up my stuff, I think I won it as a prize for something a while ago, and it had 6 blank cards in it. I covered it with scraps of paper and some bling and now I have somewhere to keep my new collection.

Something that makes you smile

Actually 2 things that make me smile, combined into one - ballet and my children! This is another page from my mini album, a page of swans from the The Ugly Duckling. Feathers snipped off my Easter candle nest, it had a few stragglers!

Anything you like

Day 1 of my challenge and the title is 'anything you like'. Nice and easy to start with! I was going to call this LO 'Anything Goes' but then I found the jazz paper and decided that was much better. One son is dressed as a Blues Brother and the other is Nigel Kennedy........can't remember now where either of them were going (it's a few years ago) but they make quite a nice LO! I managed to chop off the piano at the bottom of the journalling tag, it and the notes are buttons that I cut the shanks off.
