Birdy Present

This beautiful face appeared in the middle of my salad bed a few days ago. I saw it coming, but I thought it was one of the yellow poppies that we have scattered about in the garden. But instead it was this amazing red colour. A proper poppy! There is another appearing too, thank you birds! I am definitely collecting the seeds to plant for next year :D

Girly stuff

We've had groups of teenage girls in our house recently, and it fascinates me how they act and how their group dynamics differ from a group of boys the same age. Mostly the boys just sit around the Playstation or the TV interacting by sharing a game or a programme (with minimal verbal communication), eating, and shoving each other about a bit. The girls never stop talking, there's a lot of 'oh my god' and 'did you SEE', some squealing and lot of laughing. They come into the house after a party, and first thing is that the high heels come off (if they haven't been taken off in the car on the way home), then the false eyelashes bite the dust, and finally the make up wipes come out and all the faces are cleaned, before they settle down for a good gossip, some pizza and lots of orange juice.
I found these pretty eyelashes on the table the next morning, I thought they looked a bit like dragonfly wings and I wanted to incorporate them into a craft project..but I had to give them back to their owner for her next transformation.

On a Monday, 23 years ago today, I gave birth to this little boy. This photo was taken when he was about 20 hours old and it's pretty much the expression on his face the first moment I saw him. He was so alert and inquisitive, almost as if he was also saying 'well, hello there, nice to meet you at last'. He weighed 9lb 7oz, we didn't really bother with kilos then! Today, of course, he is much taller than me, but when I look at him I still see his face as it was that day, somewhere inside the adult face that I love just as much. He has kept that sense of wanting to learn and wanting to know, though, may that never leave him. Happy birthday :)

So many boys!

So many new baby boys this year, it's weird. I hope someone somewhere is having girls, cos otherwise in 20 years time there will be a slight problem! I made this card for some friends in Scotland, went for something completely different to other baby cards I have made as I wanted to use some newish papers. I also decorated them using bubble wrap which I had stamped with Versamark and chalked. Then I glossy accented the name. It's so pale it doesn't really show in the photo, but it's pretty in real life.

Messing about with spray paint

I saw some really good artists on youtube that inspired me to try doing some things with spray paint. They create the most amazing pictures using cans of spray paint and things like plates to create layers of different colours. I tried this with one of my TH dies. I wanted the dragonfly to be blue and silver but I made 2 mistakes I think. First, the contrast in colours wasn't strong enough, and second, the circles I used to spray the silver over the blue were not big enough. So it probably doesn't show in the photos but the wings are both blue and silver. I stuck it on holographic card for the background.
Then I put it on a tin which I had sprayed with blue spray paint. It's one of those tins that you get seashell shaped chocolates in. I used some TH papers and tissue tape and a Prima flower. It's all stuck on and sealed with Mod Podge and then spray varnish as well. I put some gems on the dragonfly too to finish it off. I'm quite pleased with the final result, I don't know what I will use the tin for, but it's very pretty. tfl.

It's a bit surreal.....

but I've been making Christmas cards in July, using an idea from Deirdre over on the CCS forum. She made some cards using red buttons to make a wreath, and also some ivy leaves that she punched out. I didn't have enough red buttons (not yet anyway!) and I don't have a leaf punch, so I decided to use a small flower punch and see if it would work. From starting with different greens, I have also done some music ones, and silvery blue ones and used some silver crystal beads on them. The tags were left over from a few years ago. Stickles to finish them off, and they have to be one of the simplest and effective cards I've made.I also got the cover of my new album done. I've been playing with another TH die as well, a dragonfly, but I haven't got it put together yet as I want to put it on a box and I haven't found the right box just yet. tfl :)

New Project

I sort of ground to a halt craft-wise recently, faffing about with some bits and pieces and getting nowhere. The garden is bleh this year, the weather has been so weird that my veggies are not behaving. I planted 2 lots of peas and none came up, only one courgette, which is a tiny plant still, and the tomatoes are complaining bitterly of the cold and wet! Two good things - onions and lots of salads. And the wild flower seeds that I planted have just started to bloom too. I have 2 different lots of wild flowers, one that I bought cheap in the supermarket and one lovely Scottish packet. Fingers crossed for some nice pics soon!
So anyway, on to the crafting. I have had a paper stack for ages called Once Upon a Time, along with some chipboard dies and stickers and other bits. And in my head, an idea, which has been fermenting. If ideas can ferment! So the new project - an album called Once Upon a Time, with pictures of my kids from babyhood to now. Not many pictures, just a representative few, otherwise I would never be finished! I'm using some Tim Holtz dies for the first time, and I have plans for some other stuff too. It's a very personal album, the papers are very fairy-tale with castles, dragons, mermaids and fairies, and I don't care if the photos don't really go with the papers - it's only for me and I'm doing my own thing!!
Now, if I could only get the arty son to remember to cut out the covers for me, I would be flying :D
